Intensive Therapy

Transform your life!

Weekly or Bi-Weekly Sessions are not For Everyone

Ah, the struggle of the weekly therapy grind! Feeling trapped between wanting help and that time-sucking commute? You're not alone.. But guess what? There's a superhero on the scene called Couples Intensive Therapy! Think of it like a therapy bootcamp, where you and your partner tackle your relationship struggles head-on, in a focused blast of awesomeness. No more waiting weeks between sessions to remember all the good stuff you learned. This is high-impact therapy, like packing a whole season of growth into a weekend retreat. Perfect for busy bees, summer vacationers, or anyone who needs a jumpstart, Couples Intensive Therapy lets you: Get real, real fast: Spend quality time with your therapist and each other, digging deep into what's working (and what's not) in your relationship. No more slow cooker therapy, this is a pressure cooker for positive change! Break the forget-me-not cycle: Intensive sessions mean the tools and techniques are fresh in your mind. Less chance of leaving the good stuff behind at the therapist's office. Make the most of that summer glow: Sunshine and therapy? What a power couple! Use the positive vibes of the season to fuel your relationship growth. So, if weekly therapy feels like a slow train to nowhere, and you're ready for a rocket ship ride to relationship bliss, Couples Intensive Therapy might be your ticket. Remember, a happy relationship is worth investing in, and sometimes, a little burst of focused effort can make all the difference. Go on, give it a whirl! You might just surprise yourself (and your partner) with the results. "All they do in therapy is fight, it takes them the rest of the week to recover, and then they come back in a week and fight again." John Gottman A babysitter may be required. You may live a good distance away. Work could get in the way. You may wait too long in between sessions such that it takes the next session to recap what happened weekly. Many people find it difficult to go through a long-term program when they can accomplish most of their goals in a week or two. You may find yourself in a serious situation that doesn't allow you to wait several months to see full results.

How Intensive Therapy Works

Ah, the dreaded therapy cliffhanger! You’re just reaching a breakthrough, about to crack the code to your relationship bliss, and bam! Times up. Frustrating, right? But fear not, intrepid couples adventurer, for there’s a solution: Intensive Couples Therapy!

Think of it as a therapy race, a sprint to relationship greatness instead of a slow jog. Two days, six hours each, packed with focused TLC for your love life. It’s like taking your favorite couples retreat and turning the intensity dial to eleven!

Here’s are some details:

  • Deep Dives: No more shallow dips! Two days allow you and your partner to really dive into the depths of your relationship, exploring those hidden crevices and uncovering potential treasures (or, you know, maybe some old socks, but still!).
  • No Cliffhangers: Forget feeling like you’re stuck on the edge of a breakthrough. Ten-minute breaks every 50 minutes (think mini pep rallies for your emotions) and flexible scheduling ensure you get the time you need to explore those “aha!” moments fully.
  • Teamwork Makes the Dream Work: You’ll tackle challenges together as a couple, but also get individual time with your therapist to work on your own stuff. Think of it as a couples bootcamp with personalized training sessions included.
  • Agenda? More like Adventuragenda!: Yes, there’s a plan, but it’s not set in stone. This is your journey, and the therapist is your trusty guide, ready to adjust the route as needed if new twists and turns arise (pun intended!).
  • Deep Discussions & Fun Games? Absolutely! Intensive therapy isn’t doom and gloom. Expect in-depth conversations about your needs, wants, and desires, balanced with fun activities that help you reconnect and rediscover the joy in being a team.

Many couples have had much success after just two partial days.

Common Questions

The following are common questions or objections.

Can intensive therapy be done via telehealth?

It can, although we find it's sometimes best in person. Some drive to Columbus and stay one night as a break from being at home and a chance to see new things.

What if we don't like the format or don't find it's working?

Intensive therapy does require an upfront payment to hold your slot. The majority of any unused time will be refunded if you decide to leave early (this hasn't happened yet).

What is the cost? Is it expensive?

The cost is $1,600 but is expected to go up soon. This is about half (or less than half) of what many providers across the country charge. While we are not the Gottman's, they charge $1,000 an hour as a reference point. The cost includes a comprehensive assessment.

Who are good candidates?

Good candidates are those who want to focus on small to medium issues like communication, sex and intimacy or to make a decent relationship fun again. Others may want to get through counseling as quickly as possible because of an emergency. This can be a good avenue for either type or those in the middle. If one person has their foot out the door and feels divorce is imminent, discernment counseling may be a better route.

Who is not a good candidate for intensive couples therapy?

While it's extremely rare to see one person walk out of a counseling office in the middle of a session, if you think this is a possibility, intensive therapy is probably not a good choice. If the two of you can't stand to be in the same room together, you may want to consider discernment counseling instead.

Will we need more counseling after intensive couples therapy?

You will likely need a couple of sessions to follow up, check in, and see what still needs work.

How long will it take to get scheduled?

Most couples can get in between 2 and 4 weeks (depending on the season and the couple's availability). Some couples can make it happen within the next week.
