Aaron Engel, Owner of Cardinal Point Counseling
Ever feel like the magic in your romantic relationship has dimmed a bit? Maybe the fun times are overshadowed by disagreements, and life just seems a bit tougher. It happens to the best of us. Whether it’s a communication hiccup, a trust issue, or feeling more like roommates than lovers, it’s okay to wonder what happened to the spark.
I’ve been there to help many individuals and couples navigate these challenges and witnessed them not only meet but exceed their expectations through therapy. My goal is to create a relaxed, non-judgmental space where we can collaborate. If you’re feeling a bit lost and unsure, I’m here to provide the guidance you need. I believe in treating clients like family (well, we can’t treat family members, but you get the point :)). You deserve to be seen promptly, so I make sure to keep slots available because you deserve to be heard and understood.
Working with couples in Columbus, Ohio, as a Columbus therapist is particularly fulfilling for me when they come together to tackle shared goals and mend a relationship that was once on the edge. Whether it’s pre-marriage counseling, navigating a friendly separation, or dealing with communication issues, I’ve got your back. And I know, sometimes, men can be a bit hesitant about couples counseling, but working with a male counselor can make it a bit more comfortable. You don’t always need a crisis for couples therapy; being proactive can make a world of difference. And hey, if attending together isn’t possible, individual sessions can still work wonders.
My commitment, integrity, and friendly approach, blended with the logical, engineering mind inherited from my dad and the creative skills from my mom, shape my counseling style. Many have mentioned that I come across as down-to-earth, and I believe my calm demeanor makes me relatable to almost anyone.
Being an Executive Committee member of the Central Ohio Counseling Association (COCA) allows me to give back to the community, a cause I’m deeply passionate about. As the owner of Cardinal Point Counseling, I take immense pride in bringing my best to every session. Counseling isn’t just a job for me; it’s a genuine passion.
I am dedicated to ensuring every aspect of the practice runs smoothly, from the broader perspective to the finer details. Holding the role of a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC) in Ohio is a testament to my expertise and commitment to providing high-quality counseling services.

I am happily married with two kids. My marriage has been the best training I could have received to be a couples therapist. It helps me to realize that I often fail to do some of the things that I suggest. It helps me to empathize with clients when everything isn’t working exactly right. Talking about what works and actually getting in the habit of doing it consistently are two different things for most couples. The good news is that there are many techniques I can offer that have been effective for many couples. I enjoy spending time with family and friends, exercising, playing Pickleball, and being outside. I was chosen for the Best Marriage Counselors in Dublin, Ohio award.

Finding the Right Fit is Important
The connection you build with your counselor is incredibly important, especially when seeking marriage counseling in Columbus, Ohio. It’s crucial to find someone you feel at ease talking to about your most personal matters. A skilled relationship counselor, whether for couples or individuals, can provide a comforting presence to guide you through the ups and downs of therapy. We understand that therapy isn’t always a walk in the park, and there might be tough moments. Having the right person by your side to navigate those conversations becomes incredibly important. Finding the perfect fit for your therapy in Columbus, Ohio, can be a challenge, but at Cardinal Point Counseling, we’re here for you. We are an inclusive practice and welcome clients from diverse backgrounds.
I believe in not taking sides unless it’s the side of your relationship and goals. A marriage or individual counselor should be willing to call out behaviors that may harm your relationship and maintain a session that stays on track. This requires a balance of compassion and directness, knowing when to use each. Even if your partner isn’t ready for counseling, individual therapy can still be beneficial.
Relationship goals vary, from repairing the relationship to proactive pre-marriage counseling or amicable separation. I utilize evidence-based methodologies like Gottman therapy tailored to each unique couple. Collaboration is key in marriage counseling, giving you the space to discuss anything on your mind. For issues like anxiety, depression, and stress, I also incorporate effective methods like CBT and DBT.
